I dont know no about you but I take my online security pretty damn seriously! So you can only imagine what was going through my head when I received an email about how Play.com had a massive date security breach! I have also heard that there was a similar problem with trip advisor as well, but fortunately for me I have never used trip advisor (Thank god).
Basically if you don’t know anything about this, or it’s the first time you’ve heard about this both websites had an unauthorised third party steal a large amount of customers data from them.In the case of play.com it was stolen from a marketing firm called “SilverPop”.
Also in the news today it has also come to light that a member of the public has reported that the website for Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre’s which has a form to report alleged offenders was yes, you guessed unencrypted.
It really has annoyed me that even a government run website is so stupid not to check even the simplest of security protocol! Especially as it is run by CEOP!
As for the play.com incident I wonder how this will effect their online business? I certainly after this little incident will NOT be using them again.

After being let down by fasthost.co.uk for the finally time I have decided to move all our main sites and domains to tsohosts.co.uk. (Thanks to @DonkeyInternet for the suggestion.)

I have been with fasthosts for a very long time, but things just started to get worse and worse so I decided to jump ship!

At one point all email services where down from one day to the next, which when your trying to run a business, and staying in touch with customers it makes things impossible!

I choose to use tsohost.co.uk for their hosting services not only because of all the good things I have heard but also the price. I was paying £60.00 a month for fasthosts services and with tsohosts im now paying £19.99 for their “Gridhosting” package. That’s quite a

big saving! Im also pretty impressed with the layout of the control panel and how easy, it is to navigate and change settings.

I would how ever like to point out that fasthosts did offer good support on twitter however that only happened after I expressed my disappointment on twitter.

In hindsight I wished I hadn’t waited so long to changes hosts, and let the problems carry on for so long.

It isn’t just me that’s having a problem with their hosting provider. Check out what is going on over on Gary Taylor’s blog regarding the massive failure of 1&1 internet.

I am slightly addicted to my iPhone, and carry it everywhere with me. I use it now more than my netbook and Im always on the hunt for new apps to download and try.

I’ve made a short list of some of the main apps I use daily to keep up to speed with what is happening on social media sites and a few others to.

Twitter: I think I actually use twitter more to send sort messages than sending txt messaging. Its so quick and easy and you can set the app up to alert you when you receive a @ message or a DM message.

The strange thing is (and im sure im not alone) is I very rarely use it on my PC or netbook. For me personally it just feels better using it on a phone.

123-reg app: I can already here people saying “why on earth would you use that!” Well if you suddenly think of a niche market or simply want to check domain availability the app is perfect. A little slow though if you are not in a 3G area or connected to Wifi but never the less still a good app. You can select the domain extensions you would prefer searching for and check for offers too.

Google: This is the one I use without fail everyday, there is just so much you can do from one app. For sending content or documents to clients I always use Google doc’s which is very easy to manage from the app, as well as calendars and emails. Also if you haven’t guessed it by now it also has a search engine built into it (Really I hear you say!)

Evernote: The iPhone comes as standard with a “note” app but I tend to use the evernote more. Not only can you make notes and then email them to yourself, but it also comes with some other cool features. I particularly like the snap shot feature which allows you to take a photo of a document or what ever you like and save it as a note. This app also features a voice recorder which does have quite a good playback.

Dragon Dictation: If like me you have to write a lot of content for sites this little app will help you speed up the process. This app allows you to speak into your iPhone and turns your speech into text. One thing that does bug me about this app is 1. You have to speak incredibly clearly otherwise it won’t understand what you’re saying. (Talk a bit like a posh news presenter, which seems to help.) 2. If you say a word it hasn’t heard quite clearly it just chucks in any random word which sounds familiar, which can get you into trouble : p. Never the less its still a great app and this

blog post was done using the app. So I am sorry if there are any random words or spelling mistakes in the post.

Shazam: This is a class app and I love it! It works every time I seem to use it perfectly and I have purchased many songs through the app from iTunes. I would love to know how it works as it pings back results pretty quickly.

Facebook: Of course this had to be here. Very easy app to use to check up on what s happening in the world! With recent updates which allow you to control other business pages you may run as well.

NMA: The New Media Age app is useful to keep up to speed with what is happening in the online marketing and advertising world. If im not using the app I am usually checking out the site when I have five minutes to spare.

I thought as I have started my own blog (After putting it off for ages) I thought I would share with you some of my all time favourite blogs I read and check daily.
There is nothing better than finding a really interesting blog, even better if its in an industry you work in or do as a hobby.
Hopefully some of the blogs below are new to you, and you will find them interesting. : )

Matt cutts: If you have any interest in SEO or the mighty G then his blog is a must!
His posts are not always about his role at Google sometimes the include very useful information or more recently debates.

Selfmademinds: I have been reading this blog for a long time and is full of great posts, ranging from domain names to link building.
I’ve always been fascinated by individuals/companies that own some fantastic domain names, and the great thing I love about this site is that the are quite open to what they are currently developing ot have recently purchased. A great blog!

Fwitter: Paul frank’s blog is one of my favourites, and this man was one of my biggest influences to try affiliate marketing and SEO.
He blog hasn’t been around all that long but is always a fun read, as he usually says what he thinks : )

3ac: I have been a visitor to 3ac.co.uk run by a chap called Gary Taylor for quite some time.
He again has a great interest (and businesses) online. His blog is falls into the same category as the above blog selfmademinds. His post are interesting and I particularly enjoy his domain development posts.

lanky git: Lanky git belongs to a gentleman called Chris Brown. His blog is a great read and covers some pretty cool subjects! He has also appeared recently on the Channel 4 program “The Secret Millionaire “ which I really enjoyed! Good blog and a nice chap too!

I hope you’ve found some of these blogs I’ve shred with you interesting and who knows you may even become a bit of fan of them as I am : )
